Forum rules
The title of this forum has somewhat of a dual meaning - with regard to a 'general' versus 'specific' perspective. Generally speaking, History and Tradition have been the contributors of the distinctives of Baptist faith and practice. The topics in this forum should be about those specific things that have been contributors of the distinctives of Baptist faith and practice - based on History and Tradition. In other words, History and Tradition is the "category" and contributors of the distinctives of Baptist faith and practice is the "theme"... If the nature of the topic does not match this "category" and "theme", then it should not be placed in this forum.

Bro. Vaughn,
You requested elsewhere details of Oregon Landmark history.
Probably the most thorough book on all types of Baptists in Oregon is coincidentally called Baptists in Oregon by Albert W. Wardin Jr.
It covers until about 1970.
After that, if you want information, Bro. L.D. (Doug) Perdue is probably the best source, along with Bro. Bob Cullifer, pastor of the Folsom, CA MBC.

Like many long time groups of churches, Oregon has had its number of fusses and splits.
One of the most recent was in 1983 when Bro. Perdue was pastor of the Bend MBC and several churches left the State Association.

Thanks, Brother Howard. I have been familiar with Bro. Wardin and his works for quite some time. In fact, though we've never met face to face, we have communicated by snail mail, phone and e-mail over a period of about 20 years. When I did an "Unaffiliated Landmark Baptist Survey," he supplied me a list of independent unaffiliated Landmark churches in Oregon. But we didn't discuss their reasons for leaving the association. I remember a "fuss" (not particularly an Oregon one, but including Oregon pastors) re a missionary (from a church in Texas) with Southern Baptist baptism recommended to the ABA for support.
