Ivory-lined Council Halls of Eternity

Postby W. A. Dillard on 2008 Feb 15 Fri 8:30 am

It seems much is made of things that transpired in eternity before the creation of time. Sometimes one hears of the ivory-lined council halls of eternity where decisions were made affecting all of time and its events. I find no such reference in my Bible. It would probably do us all well to consider that we are not big enough to sit in God's chair. But truth is in the Word for the finding.
It would be interesting to know what forumites think about Jesus being the lamb slain and by that the only means of eternal life before the earth was created. What think ye?
I would argue that most of the thinking about the subject centers around a lack of understanding of the Greek word "cosmos," and "katabole."

I would argue that God was NOT playing mind games with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They were offered eternal life in eating of the Tree of Life. What a difference human history would have known had they done so. In fact, the stated reason they were driven out of the Garden of Eden was to make it impossible for them to eat of the Tree of Life and live forever in a sinful state.
Subsequently, there are numerous scriprures that state that Jesus stood as a Lamb Slain from the foundation of the world. I would offer these comments for thought:
"Foundation" is a composite word in the Greek. It is Katabole meaning to cast or throw down. The term for world is "cosmos" which means a definite working order or system. For instance a watch is a cosmos if it does its intended job of keeping correct time. A woman is just a woman until she puts on make-up. At that point she becomes a cosmos, a defintie working system to attract the opposite sex. That is why they call that make-up "cosmetics."
To continue: The cosmos men now live under is the cosmos ( the definite working system) of sin and death. It was initiated when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. Since then, Christ Jesus has stood as a Lamb slain for the sins of the cosmos (world). Do not confuse cosmos, world, with "Ge" earth. From the latter we get geology, geography, etc. as a study of the planet. Planet is one thing, world is quite another.
