Jesus a racist? The sorry state of religion in America

Postby Rlvaughn on 2009 Feb 25 Wed 9:16 am

"Was Jesus a racist?" by Miguel De La Torre reveals something of the sorry state of religion in America. Despite our many differences, it probably could once be said that most of the denominations called Christian in America held an orthodox view as Jesus as the Son of God. For many years this has no longer been the case, as De La Torre's "opinion piece" makes perfectly clear.

To deny this woman a healing and call her a dog reveals the racism his culture taught him. But Jesus, unlike so many within the dominant social structure of today, was willing to hear the words of this woman of color, and learn from her.

And thanks to her, Jesus' ministry was radically changed. The Canaanite woman responded by saying, "For even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters."

Her remark shocked Jesus into realizing that faith was not contingent on a person's ethnicity. In fact, Jesus had to admit that this was a woman of great faith.

Where do people get this junk at. Do they think they look smarter than the ones, through out church history, that believe Jesus Christ is, was, and will continue to be all knowing. I have even heard of this in our work. It is hard for me to read words like "and learn from her". This also makes a point that I want to share that has to do with the "New Light" posting. A few people have veiwed this this absolute heresy and no one has commented but the "New Light" thing is almost on its second page. Where is everyone when the very foundation of Who God is is being attacked!!! Oh we are all worried about something that may or may not be happening. For the record isn't happening between Stockton, Ca. down to Merced, Ca. You all who know where I am talking about that is for you. If it seems I am a little upset then you hit the nail on the head. Squaking about and fighting between churches and there is this "La Torre's" junk going on. We are really in our own little world.

Wesley, the rantings of the "hammerhead" is doubtless the result of relevancy that is so popular today. Some say we must make the church and the Bible relevant to today's world rather than the other way around. This guy now makes Jesus so relevant to sinful humanity that He has become one of them in his ignorance. HA! But, at least this is something definable and a specific heresy that can be identified (not a communist behind every tree) and something God's people can address. Of course, the state of religion in America and/or the world has always been a sorry, sinful, instrument of the devil who is counterfeiting the beautiful Saviour, His Word and His churches.

Brother Denney, it is amazing how some people come up with some of this stuff, isn't it? Like you, I have been disappointed in the seeming lack of interest in this. But I suppose people assume this doesn't affect them and that new lightism does. But it is likely that Mr. Torre's stuff will get here all too soon. Brother Dillard, I afraid there are probably more people that think this tripe is relevant than think the Bible and the gospel are. Sad indeed.

Well I am glad there are some brethern that see this as something to get publicly disgusted about. We need to remember that this forum is open to be looked at by the world. I just believe we need to show that we make a stand on these issues as much as we do on our pet subjects.

This is not cultural relevance. This is outright heresy!
I don't think it shocked Jesus into thinking that faith was not dependent upon ethnicity but it probably shocked a bunch of Jews into realizing faith was not dependent upon ethnicity. Some of us in the A.B.A. could use a good shocking that way! Does anyone know if the woman was making reference to an OT scripture about dogs eating crumbs or was that just a cultural relevant illustration?

Brother Vaughn,

Mr. de la Torre's article is, indeed, an indication of the sorry state of religion in America. The plain fact is, the heresy of modernism is the dominant voice in "theological education" today and is, in fact, the theology of the major Protestant denominations as well as many Baptists.

Modernism is not Christianity. It is a denial of every doctrine of Christianity from God's creation and providence to the virgin birth, substitutionary death and deity of Jesus Christ. Modernism denies the history, doctrine, and morality of the Scriptures. Modernism is anti-Christ to the core.

For several decades, while our kin and neighbors were telling us that the only difference between Southern Baptists and the Landmark Baptists is "the way we do mission work", the modernists had a monkey grip on the Southern Baptist educational system. There have been some major changes among Southern Baptists over the past two decades, but anyone who thinks that modernism is not still a major influence on the Southern Baptist system has his head stuck in the sand. Anyone who thinks Landmark Baptists have not been effected by the same is equally blind.

God deliver us is all I can say. And God help us to earnestly contend for the faith against the minions of hell who would rob our children of their very souls!
