Brother Vaughn,
Mr. de la Torre's article is, indeed, an indication of the sorry state of religion in America. The plain fact is, the heresy of modernism is the dominant voice in "theological education" today and is, in fact, the theology of the major Protestant denominations as well as many Baptists.
Modernism is not Christianity. It is a denial of every doctrine of Christianity from God's creation and providence to the virgin birth, substitutionary death and deity of Jesus Christ. Modernism denies the history, doctrine, and morality of the Scriptures. Modernism is anti-Christ to the core.
For several decades, while our kin and neighbors were telling us that the only difference between Southern Baptists and the Landmark Baptists is "the way we do mission work", the modernists had a monkey grip on the Southern Baptist educational system. There have been some major changes among Southern Baptists over the past two decades, but anyone who thinks that modernism is not still a major influence on the Southern Baptist system has his head stuck in the sand. Anyone who thinks Landmark Baptists have not been effected by the same is equally blind.
God deliver us is all I can say. And God help us to earnestly contend for the faith against the minions of hell who would rob our children of their very souls!
