When I started the forum, it was supposed to be a place that Landmark Baptists came from a variety of fellowships to meet and, well, fellowship. I knew that I would be unable of handling the enormous task of running the board all on my own. One of the main problems was that I wake up at 5:30 to get to a job by 7:00. I work until about 4:45, carpool home to arrive around 7:00pm. In addition to working, I am also a full-time seminary student enrolled in three classes through Liberty Online, and I pastor a church. Since we are short on staff, I also take care of the youth ministry and music ministry.
This means that I spend hours developing presentations and studying texts in addition to my school work and secular work. I am sure my wife wishes I was home more, so I give her a night a week for date night where we go out and turn off all communication and just spend time with each other doing dinner or a movie or something.
You will notice that while I try to visit the board at least once a day, I have not been completely on top of the task all the time. We have had technical problems that took me a while to get to. I needed someone who would be committed to handling the technical aspect of the forum. When I realized that Bro. Allbritton had extensive experience in this field, it may sense to bring him on board as part of the team. My eventual goal is to have a larger team with moderators, etc. This was the goal from the beginning.
This board is a collaborative project forged in a technological era with some really awesome features that were not accessible to anyone 10 years ago. I am happy that we have this place - Landmark Baptists have needed it for a while. When people join or leave the team, it will not hinder progress. Ultimately, the decision to move someone into a position of leadership has to do with their commitment to the goal, their experience handling such a project, and the overall need at the time. It is not a decision based on their length of membership.
I wish that everyone could be an administrator, but that would be a real problem when too many cooks might destroy the cake!
I do have some moderators in mind for various forums, but moderators have different job descriptions and qualifications than site admins.
With respect to the chain of command of the board... I own it, I pay for it, and, while we all volunteer, the site ultimately meets my specifications. My intent is to have open and honest dialog, which seems to be what has happened thus far. To maintain this, I must keep my own opinions from running people off the site. To date, I have only had to "exclude" one person from the site because he was not even a Baptist. The archives show this. I will not run the board with an iron hand. I will place people in authority that can do a job well.
If I did not feel Bro. Allbritton was capable of handling the task, I should have done it myself. Since I am so busy, I knew that we needed someone to keep making the board better. Therefore, I will let Bro. Allbritton do the job that he knows how to do, and I will watch with pride this little baby forum bring harmony among an often divisive group of brethren.
You might be wondering if I will ever come in and start making striking changes on my own. Well, I hope not! I hope that by the time I have time, we have assembled a team and my position is much more like a overseer and a problem-solver rather than the one who is always working on the board. That being said, I know that I may have to handle things from time to time. I will finish my Masters next year and, if accepted, head in for a PhD. The PhD program takes three years. So, in four years, I will finally be able to have the time to properly administrate a board the way it should be administrated. Maybe then, Bro. Allbritton will have trained me well and I can do the job that he is doing as well as he is doing it.
