In some cases they have done it immediately or shortly after the person announces his call. In other cases they have required the person to preach before the church several times before recommending them to others. I've never known of any paperwork -- license -- to be involved, though I'm sure some churches probably do it that way.
Anyway, may God's blessing be upon your calling and ministry.
Yes every other time I have seen an assembly license a preacher it is done simply by a vote usually shortly after they annouce their call to the ministry.
I thought that is what would be done in my case also but my Pastor has chosen to take the opportunity to try and teach the membership some basics of holding ordination services during this time. I actually think it is a good idea to use it as a teachable moment. Isn't one of the things that many Pastors bemoan a little is the fact that the membership doesn't understand certain practices in our work and since ordinations aren't very common or often, it is a good time to get some basic understanding out to the membership.
Trying to think outside of the box to increase the memberships knowledge and understanding of things, this is one I like.
