Totally Free One Day Video Game Day for Youth

Postby Jon Smith on 2009 Mar 26 Thu 6:28 am

In the last year our church has had three "Totally Free One Day Video Game Day(s)" for Youth. We have a man in our church that is really good at setting up video games (x-box, playstations, wii) and linking them to the internet and each other. We have used his ability by advertising these one day events with flyers and signs. We have had 50+ youth come every time we have done this. We did it during Spring Break and Summer Break and Christmas Holiday because there are countless number of kids bored at home playing video games by themselves anyway. The Youth Sponsors are able to build relationships with these kids by playing with them and then share the gospel with them. The first time we did this out of about 50 kids 20 had never been in our church before and about 10 had never been in a church ever. Before lunch we shared the gospel with the whole group. From the three outreaches we have seen about 10 kids make professions of faith as they kept coming to youth group and of the 10 professions we have had 5 baptized and join the church. God has blessed this outreach!

It is at least interesting.

One thing I didn't mention is that we had some dads of the kids that had never been to church take a day off work and spend it with their boys playing video games with them in the tournaments. That was unexpected but a great opportunity to reach out to them also.

the Youth Ministry at our church has been very blessed. We believe in all the purposes that the Bible lays out for the Church. When we have activities we usually categorize them in 1 of 5 areas. They are Worship, Ministry, Evangelism, Fellowship and Discipleship. This way we can have some "Marshmallow" events once in a while. What's funny is that by having the purpose of each event understood by our workers even a "Marshmallow" event can be turned into a Evangelism event. The next day we did door to door evangelism which we actually categorized under the purpose of Discipleship (training youth to share the gospel effectively). We didn't see any professions that day but we accomplished our purpose in Discipleship!

Hey Jon,
You know I'm pretty old school, but this is a great idea. Especially since you have your events categorized so clearly. I might snag this idea. You require royalties?

no copyrights...baptists were practicing the 5 purposes many years before God used Warren to re-educate this generation of baptists about them.
