Researcher says hypocrisy not biggest obstacle to evangelism

Postby Rlvaughn on 2009 Jul 28 Tue 2:36 pm

Sort of interesting article/survey

"...contrary to the stereotype that hypocrisy is the main obstacle to evangelism, non-churchgoers are really not too bothered by some hypocrisy with Christians."

I removed the second link. The ABP is evidently the original source, but the article is the same. I don't know why it asked for a login. I wasn't logged in when I viewed that page. Anyway, the Baptist Standard link is the same article.

Anyone have any thoughts on the things that bother non-Christians and why hypocrisy is not high on the list?

I think the article might have nailed it. They understand people aren't perfect. They just can't stand how Christians often treat each other, and even those who are not in the church. It is easy for anyone to be disillusioned with the way churches tend to turn on themselves... even preachers.

Bro. Acker,
I, personally, would consider the idea of Christians treating each other unchristlike to be showing hypocrisy.
They just can't stand how Christians often treat each other,

Does not "love cover" something?
Is there not a 7 x something?

To be honest, Bro. Looney, I found most of the annoyances to be some form of hypocrisy. Not going to church (Hebrews 10:23-25)? Failing to love one another (I John actually treats love for one another as being a test of salvation), and so on. But since the authors of this study obviously define hypocrisy the way the world does (stumbling), I just went with it.
