Texas Southern Baptist Editor Waffles On Sodomy

Postby Mark Osgatharp on 2009 Aug 10 Mon 2:12 pm

On July 11th, 2009 Marv Knox, the editor of the Baptist Standard, which is the official newspaper of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, wrote an article about homosexuality. The article came in the wake of the expulsion of a Texas Baptist Church from the Southern Baptist Convention because it had openly homosexual members. Mr. Knox states in the article that he thinks homosexuality is wrong but calls for dialogue on the subject.

In the online correspondence precipitated by the article Mr. Knox made the following statement:

Marv Knox wrote:Thanks for your kind words, and—more importantly—the gracious sentiments they reflect, Richard. I hope and pray people of faith and/or goodwill would approach homosexuality and so many other issues that divide us with at least a grain of humility.

Years ago, one of my mentors told me about a Methodist bishop who responded to every critical letter by acknowledging, "There's a very good chance you may be right." Of course, he also admitted he may be wrong. And so it goes for all of us.

Everyone who has read my editorial knows what I believe and how I interpret Scripture. But I may be wrong. And regardless, even if I am correct on the issue but crush the spirit of another person, I certainly am not right.

So, dear Texas Baptist brethren, the next time your Southern Baptist family or friends asks you the difference between Southern Baptists and Landmark Baptists, you can tell them that Southern Baptists retain editors who are not sure what the Bible teaches about sexual perversion.

You can read about it right here http://www.baptiststandard.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9802&Itemid=9.
